NATURAL HOME REMEDIES FOR BROKEN & HEAT DAMAGED HAIR


If you shampoo and condition your hair every day and it's still dry, frizzy and full of split ends, you may need to change how you care for your hair. Changing health and nutritional habits, as well as modifying your hair care regimen, can be beneficial.



SHAMPOO
Use a gentle shampoo when you wash your hair. Don't scrub your scalp or the strands of your hair vigorously when washing. Rinse your hair with lukewarm---not hot---water.
Look for a shampoo that says "moisturizes" on the bottle. The ingredients should clean your hair gently without stripping the needed oils from the hair shaft.
Don't wash your hair every day. Doing so removes the beneficial oil from the hair shaft, worsening broken and damaged hair.

CONDITIONER
Apply a conditioner to your hair while you're in the shower. Leave it in for about two minutes, then rinse it out with lukewarm water. When you're buying your conditioner, look for one that has a sun protection factor of at least 15, according to the All Hairstyles Haircuts website.
Deep condition your hair once a week or treat it with an oil---coconut, olive, almond or aloe will condition the roots and shafts. Leave the oil in your hair and cover your hair with a warm, moist towel for 15 minutes. Once the treatment is done, gently shampoo the oil out using a conditioning shampoo.

DRYING AND HEAT
Give your hair a break from hair dryers, flat irons and curling irons. When you dry your hair, allow it to air dry. Refrain from using the flat iron and curling iron too often---use them no more than twice per week.
Don't run a hairbrush through wet hair---it's weakest at this point and can break if you put too much stress on it. Instead, finger-comb your hair to remove tangles, then use a wide-tooth comb to get the tangles out. Once it's 90 percent dry, use your hair dryer on a cool setting and tousle it with your fingers, according to the "Ladies' Home Journal" website.

DIET
Concentrate on eating a diet high in protein, vitamins A, B, C, D and E. Don't forget to include foods such as cheese, yogurt, green vegetables, meat, butter, broccoli and tofu. Your hair benefits from within and responds with a healthier appearance.

Along with ensuring a nutritious diet, make sure you get enough sleep every night and exercise on a regular basis. Physical exertion allows for good blood flow to your scalp and hair while sufficient sleep benefits your overall health.
