Sweet News: Candy Lovers Are Surprisingly Thinner--Do You Heart Candy?

Eat candy, lose weight? I wish. But seriously, according to the latest news, candy lovers may be a slim bunch. Do you love candy? What's your favorite kind? Let's talk sweet stuff...

I've seen a lot of surprising weight loss news, but this really shocked me. According to Louisiana State University researchers, people who tend to eat candy and chocolate treats have smaller waistlines, lower BMIs and weigh less than those who tend to nix sweet splurges. On top of that, say the researchers, candy eaters had a 14 percent lower risk for high blood pressure.
What's going on here? There are two factors to point out:
1.) This study asked people to recall what they ate, which is typically an unreliable method, and
2.) Candy or no candy, it all boils down to calories. A little candy eaten as a part of a low-calorie diet isn't going to make anyone pack on pounds.
I'm not really a candy fan, but chocolate, oh yeah. How about you?
Are you a candy eater? What's your favorite kind?

5 Of The Best Wedding Beauty Tips I've Ever Heard!

Tons of fancy hair and makeup pros have shared wedding beauty tips with us here on Save the Date. In case you've missed a few--or are new to the blog--here are some of the very best ones for you to have and to hold
.

1. Consider how your hair color will look in photos.

Adding some face-framing highlights is a great way to prevent brown hair from looking like one solid, dark mass in photos.  Brides should avoid anything too auburn, which tends to look "cartoonish" in pics.
2. Make sure your makeup is going to stay looking great.
Don't curl your lashes right after washing your face (the curl holds much better when lashes are dry); and skip cream blushes, eyeliners and eyeshadows, which tend to absorb into skin over time (powders last longer).
3. To avoid helmet-head, incorporate a hairspray alternative.
Use a good texturizing cream while your hair is damp to provide staying power for your hairstyle without stiffness or stickiness. You can still finish things off with a misting of hairspray, but you'll be able to use lots less (your new husband will thank you when he touches your hair!).
4. Not sure where to find a great wedding makeup artist? Try the mall.
Many of the makeup artists who work behind the beauty counters at department stores are available for hire for special events like weddings, and you can usually test out their services without the huge "makeup trial" price tag. Plus, you can try out a few in a row if you want to compare (just always be sure to leave a tip and perhaps buy a product to compensate each for her/his time).
5. There's a way to look radiant without looking shiny.
Boehmer also divulged this sneaky makeup-artist trick: If you concentrate translucent powder toward the center of your face (nose, chin, forehead) but avoid using it on your cheeks or eye area, you can get that elusive glowy-but-not-greasy look in photos. Keep blotting papers on hand for quick, mess-free T-zone touchups.

Hairstyle Idea + Nail Inspiration: Kim Kardashian's Kids' Choice Awards Braid And Manicure

Another day, another red-carpet braid. For Nickleodeon's 24th Annual Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday night, Kim Kardashian tried this new twist on the hairstyle trend that just refuses to die.

On the left side, a braid was tucked cutely behind her ear ...

... and there was a matching braid on the other side of her head, nestled amongst loose curling-iron waves. I think your hair would have to be quite thick, like Kim's, to pull this hairstyle off, but doesn't it look all kinds of adorbs on her? Or are lots of you now closing your eyes and humming loudly and pretending that this whole braid trend is not still happening?
Meanwhile, some of you might recall that I was all about orange nail polish last year this time. Well after seeing Kim's manicure and pedicure, I officially still am! The tones of the orange are beautiful against her dress. It's so girly yet playful.

What do you all think of Kim Kardashian's orange nails and braids from the Kids' Choice Awards?

Beauty Trends: Gorgeous Greetings from Las Vegas

Dear Fashion/Beauty/Health,

Most people picture Las Vegas as a hot tourist destination known for its nightlife -- clubs that range from chic and tame to wild and risque -- but that isn't all Las Vegas has to offer. Our local women are smart, gorgeous and fashion forward. We set our own trends

Hair: Long, slightly layered locks are in! Vibrant shades of crimson and strawberry blonde are revitalizing tired tresses, as many stylish women are seeking a splash of excitement after years of maintaining the same color. Hair extensions are also gaining in popularity. Shalonda Buffington of Flawlace Boutique is seeing an increase in clientele who desire longer and fuller hair, with an emphasis on sleek and sexy. Her clients are requesting solid black - no highlights - with layers and feather lace or china bangs.

Nails: Spring is upon us, so pedicures are on an upward climb as women pamper and prepare their feet for sandals and open-toed shoes. Don't expect their pedicure polish to match their manicure, though. Angelina Pabon of Flawlace Boutique says, "Women love a more exciting look to their toes, but will remain more conservative with their hands. For instance, my executive clients will go with a sophisticated look to their fingernails, but go buck wild on their toes, often choosing a glitter blue butterfly wing color or apple-green shimmer."

Red is the most popular nail color for fingernails, with "I'm Not Really a Waitress" by OPI the most requested shade, but the timeless French manicure is still the design of choice. That manicure has a new process, though. UV gel nails, such as Gelish or the CND line Shellac, are gaining in popularity. They are a newer technique, the less damaging alternative to acrylic nails, and result in a beautiful, long-lasting manicure.

Lips: Gloss is hot! M.A.C. C-Thru gloss is extremely popular. Frosty babydoll pinks, like M.A.C. Politely Pink Lustre Lipstick, and nude shades are always popular for everyday use, but berry colors are the seasons hottest trend. Daphne Balsas-Tounis of Flawlace Boutique has noticed some definite trends: "During the day, it's neutral pinks or nudes, like Lancome L'Absolu Rouge lip color in Rich Casmere, and in the evening, it's more dramatic, with berries, wines and reds likYSL Forbidden Burgundy Rouge Volupte or Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick."

Eyes: Eyelash extensions are all the rage and I don't expect it to fade out any time soon. Many salons are sending their estheticians for training, so they can capitalize on this booming trend. Sites like Groupon andLiving Social are running frequent promotions for local salons, and the numbers purchased are staggering, further demonstrating the demand for this service.

Las Vegas women are at an advantage when it comes to staying fashionable: After all, they live in a city that never sleeps!

Love,
Meg

How to Keep Your Hair Out of Your Face

OKAY OKAY! Call me a hair fanatic! Here are some beauty tips from me that I think you will find very effective.

Those of us with fringe fully understand this plight; when they’re growing out, a ‘Lauren Conrad’ braid might feel too casual, and a ‘Pompadour pin-up’ might feel too fancy.

I will share my tips on how to master what I call the ‘Roll Wave’,
a.k.a. how to keep bangs and shorter strands in their rightful place—off of your face! This will also be the best balance between fancy and casual.. all you have to do is change your outfits!

Step 1:
Take a small section of hair and mist with
Redken Spray Starch 15, and brush hair with Sam Villa Signature Series Round Brush Small ($29.95).
Step 2:
Pass the
Sam Villa Signature Series SLEEKR Flat Iron ($229.95) over the section a couple times to heat.
Step 3:
Immediately follow with brush and roll ¾ of the way down towards the scalp.
Step 4:
Keeping the iron closed, and using the outside corner of the edges, glide it over the top of the section between the head and brush, down and forward towards the face.
Step 5:
Cool and release–this creates an “S” formation with bump pattern that pushes hair back and way from the face.
