Bridal Hair Myth-Busting: Hair by Megan B. Sets The Record Straight

You've always dreamed about sitting in that chair on your wedding day, glam squad in tow, but now it's really time to figure out what you want them to do to you. Wedding planning comes with a checklist of musts and non-negotiables, and before you know it, you're not having any fun. Feeling pressured by tradition will suck the fun out of your big day, quick. Remember, it's your day and you can do what you wanna, but if you're still stumped on a wedding-appropriate 'do, I am more than happy to set the record straight when it comes to bridal hair. Read up, then book your appointment asap!

Myth #1: You MUST wear an updo for your wedding.
If you wear your hair down 99% of the time, chances are there's a reason. You're more comfortable that way; it suits your facial structure. No one wants to be unrecognizable on their wedding day,and as far as I know, there's no rule when it comes to whether your hair should be up or down. That being said, just because you're wearing your hair down doesn't mean you have to have the same style you wore to work on Tuesday. You have options! You can add length with extensions; add texture with hot tools, or a little flair with some kind of hair adornment. Another option that should not be disregarded is the half-updo (despite what all of you are picturing). a stylist can make this style work by adding some texture. It's good to keep things looking modern and sexy.

Myth #2: You need to start growing your long layers NOW (and he hasn't even proposed yet).
It's a lot harder to create volume with one-length, super-long hair. Having some layering in your hair can really give you a nice look for an updo. Most importantly, you don't want to sacrifice your ends while you're Rapunzel-ing it up. We'll take healthy and voluminous over overgrown and splitting any day of the week—but especially on your wedding day.

Myth #3: If you want to look glam, your hair can't be down.

Down-styles can be just as formal and beautiful! I love when brides wear their hair down, pulled back slightly on one side and secured with a vintage pin, or flower, or a pin/flower combo. The look can be both demure and glamorous, framing your face to one side and showing off a sparkling earring on the other. The key to pulling off this look is keeping some volume to the hair (and keeping everything super-touchable!)

While everyone was oooo-ing and ahhhh-ing over Natalie Portman during last February's Academy Awards show, I was shocked that gorgeous Mila Kunis, her co-star in Black Swan, was not getting her own attention.

The girl is stunning. Mila Kunis's eyes, alone, are quite beautiful on their own.
Big, wide-set, almond-shaped eyes, with of course, the perfect set of brows.

So, how can you make flirty Mila Kunis eyes?

With tons of shadow, liquid liner, and mascara. And one of these is the key to the 27-year-old beauty's elegant eyes

Think PURPLE. Yes, purple!
It looks good on any skin tone and level; It's a hot makeup trend for summer 2011.

And if you're not able to create as smoky an eye as Mila's signature look, you can still get a sexy gaze with just a hint of the shade.

I like Make Up for Ever Aqua Liner in Iridescent Electric Purple.
I bought it for $23, at Sephora.

This is new, highly pigmented shadow!

This is a super liquid liner, ladies. It's smudge-proof, water-proof, and it's got a cool applicator---it's a foam-tip applicator, designedto resemble a makeup brush handle for the most accurate application.

And the purple liquid is amazing!
If you're hesitant, just paint the liquid liner across your upper lash line, or you can apply it OVER your black liner

Add lots of mascara, and you're ready to go!

Summer Essentials for Preserving Healthy Hair

1. Condition your hair.
If you love the beach but you want to keep looking good, then a tip I have for both pool and ocean loving people is to add olive oil or a leave-in conditioner to the hair before going into the pool or ocean/lake.

2. Spray-On Sunscreen.
Protect your hair and scalp just as you would the rest of your skin.  Cover your part by lightly misting your hair with a spray-on sunscreen before heading outside.  This prevents the pain and peeling of sunburned skin, but also keeps hair color from fading.

3. Hair Ties.
Nylon hair ties are much safter and more effective for pulling hair back into chic buns and twists, just make sure to leave at least an inch at the end to prevent breakage.

4. Wide-Brimmed, Floppy Hat.
The wide-brimmed hats, occasionally referred to as floppy, have made a much appreciated comeback this summer!
